WWE's Deal With Ion TV & Dropping Pay-Per-View Mention

As noted, WWE Main Event on Ion is no more as the contract expired and the show will be airing exclusively on the WWE Network now. The lack of renewal doesn’t mean a lot because the $100,000 (ballpark figure) per week WWE was getting for the show wasn’t as important to their bottom line, at a time where they expect profits to rise greatly from the RAW and SmackDown TV rights and the Network.

- WWE is dropping the term "pay-per-view." From now on, the monthly Sunday shows are being called "special events."

Two Title Matches Added To WWE Main Event

WWE has announced the following for tomorrow night's episode of Main Even, airing live on the WWE Network at 8pm EST:

* Natalya vs. AJ Lee for the WWE Divas Title

* Mark Henry vs. Dean Ambrose for the WWE United States Title

WWE Planning To Air Main Event On WWE Network Going Forward?

This is unconfirmed but there's talk that Main Event will be live on the Network until WrestleMania XXX.

WWE's contract with Ion reportedly expires on April 2nd and as of a few weeks ago, it was not looking like the deal would be renewed. There's also been talk of having Main Event be a WWE Network exclusive.

WWE Set To Launch MAIN EVENT On ION TV

WWE will premiere a new show called WWE Main Event on the ION Television network beginning Wednesday, October 3rd at 8pm EST. The one-hour show will feature WWE Superstars and Divas every Wednesday night.
