We need Doogie now more than ever.
Put your scrubs back on because Doogie Howser is making a comeback — but with a catch.
Disney+ is planning a reboot of the 1989 ABC dramedy "Doogie Howser, M.D." with a female as its lead role.
The title of the new series will be "Doogie Kealoha, M.D." It will tell the story of a half-Asian, half-white 16-year-old young woman working as a doctor in Hawaii, reported Deadline.
The series will be produced by “How I Met Your Mother” and “Fresh Off the Boat” producer Kourtney Kang. The lead character's ethnicity draws on the Hawaiian-born producer's own experiences growing up in a mixed-race family.
"Doogie Howser, M.D." starred Neil Patrick Harris, where he took on the role of a teenager working as a resident in a hospital. The show ran on ABC from 1989 through 1993. The show was an early 90s hit and launched the actor’s career.
The cast included Belinda Montgomery and James B. Sikking as Doogie’s parents. Other stars included Lisa Dean Ryan, Lucy Boryer, and Max Casella as his close friends.
The show is the latest reboot of classic films and series slated for the platform, including "Turner & Hooch," "The Mighty Ducks," "High School Musical: The Musical: The Series" and a "Beauty and the Beast" spinoff.
