Report: Tim Tebow to the Jaguars 'a virtual certainty'
Despite owner Woody Johnson expecting Tim Tebow to remain with the team for the life of his contract -- another two years -- it appears he will be playing in Jacksonville next season, according to a report from ESPN.
Tebow, who has had a disappointing season in New York, was not likely to return to the Jets anyway, according to a league insider who requested anonymity to speak freely on the Jets' situation. Although there is a slender chance he'll be back, he'll more than likely be traded or released.
That means heading back to Jacksonville, his hometown and the other franchise who heavily pursued him this offseason.
There, perhaps, Tebow could rekindle his ultimate goal of being a starter in the NFL, a role that was taken from him this year after being leapfrogged on the depth chart by third stringer Greg McElroy, who will start Sunday.
Tebow has attempted just eight passes this season and played an entire series for the first time last Monday against the Titans.
Although offensive coordinator Tony Sparano and head coach Rex Ryan have refused to admit the Tebow experiment was a failure, they both had hoped specialty packages involving the dual threat passer would yield more success.
Tebow was as bleak as ever during an interview session this week, and although he would not admit to requesting a trade or release, he did not deny it either.

Mark Sanchez will likely be the backup quarterback Sunday, according to a report in The New York Daily News. The move would seem logical given that Sanchez had been running the carded or scout team practices all week.
Sanchez was benched following an abysmal five-turnover performance against Tennessee on Monday -- a game that knocked the Jets out of playoff contention.
