Eagles set to offer 'augmented reality' tickets

Starting this season, Eagles tickets will grant fans access to more than just Lincoln Financial Field.

The Birds have implemented a new ticket promotion called “augmented reality,” which will let fans unlock exclusive video messages from Eagles players on their smartphones.

All ticket holders have to do is install the official Eagles mobile app on their smartphones, and then use their phones to scan their tickets.

“We are always trying to provide new features and experiences for our fans,” Eagles president Don Smolenski said. “We think there’s a real wow factor when season ticket holders hold their smartphones over these tickets and watch them come to life, launching videos that showcase some of our fans’ favorite players.”

Attendance at NFL games is down 4.5 percent since 2007, according to the Wall Street Journal, but the Eagles haven't been one of the teams to suffer. They've sold out every home game since the 2000 season.

The team's creation of augmented reality tickets was simply about improving the in-stadium experience for fans.
