Toronto Blue Jays Sign Jamie Moyer

After losing their their fourth starting pitcher to injury in a span of two weeks, the Blue Jays have looked to the one who's there for rotations with nowhere left to turn: Jamie Moyer.



The Jays have inked the 49-year-old to a minor-league contract, Gregor Chisolm of MLB.com reports. Moyer just recently asked for and was granted his release from the Orioles, for whom he had be toiling in Triple-A. After pitching well for Norfolk in the International League (1.69 ERA after three starts), Moyer was apparently looking for a quicker path back to the majors. Given the battered state of the Toronto pitching staff, he may have found it.


Earlier this season, Moyer posted a 5.70 ERA in 53.2 innings for the Rockies. While with Colorado, he became the oldest starting pitcher ever to win a game at the major-league level.


Moyer will join the rotation at Triple-A Las Vegas without, as Chisolm reports, any guarantees of being promoted to Toronto.
