Phillies Sign Slugger Jim Thome To One Year Deal

Thome has agreed to a one-year deal worth 1.25 million contingent on a physical on Saturday, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation.

Thome, who previously played for the Phillies from 2003-05, will help bolster the club's bench. He has been primarily a designated hitter since being traded to the White Sox following the '05 season.

The deal reunites Thome with former manager and mentor Charlie Manuel. He played under Manuel in Cleveland from 2000-02 and during his stint in Philadelphia.

Thome, 41, is eighth on the all-time home runs list with 604. He hit .256 with 15 home runs and 50 RBIs last season while playing for the Twins and Indians.
