Obstacles in the move include the Red Sox wanting to retain Epstein, or, if he does leave, wanting fair compensation from the Cubs, according to the paper.
"But this is going to be resolved very soon," a source told the Herald.
Epstein, who has won two World Series with the Red Sox, has one year remaining on his contract and the team has not said that he will get an extension.
