Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is uncertain whether he’ll be able to play next weekend against the 49ers, after breaking his right (non-throwing) hand during Sunday’s 29-16 loss to the Giants.
Vick also thinks he is being hit late every week by opponents, but that referees are not calling penalties when they are warranted. Vick was injured when he was hit by defensive tackle Chris Canty after completing a pass to Jeremy Maclin in the third quarter. Vick, who suffered a concussion last week, thought Canty’s hit should have been a penalty.
“I felt like I got hit late—there’s no flag, broke my hand,” Vick said. “I was trying to protect myself. Didn’t get a flag. That’s pretty much been the story the last three weeks. Obviously at some point, something catastrophic is going to happen.
“I just think more protection should be taken when I’m inside the pocket. You look at all the replays … I’m on the ground every time. I’d be lying if I sat here and said I wasn’t frustrated right now.”
Asked if he felt he was not getting calls that other quarterbacks get, Vick said, “Absolutely. The refs got to do their jobs as well.”
Asked if he could play against the 49ers, Vick said, “I don’t know. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to play next week. I don’t know anything right now except my hand is broken. We’ve got to figure out the next move.”
