The St. Louis Cardinals just possibly let the greatest player in franchisehistory slip through their fingers…Albert Pujols' self imposed deadline to reach a new contract agreement has expired…Pujols will become a free agent next year and everyone is thinking the Redbirds biggest rivals, the Chicago Cubs will go after Pujols…My source tells me they 100% will pursue Pujols, and will break the bank if necessary. A source close to Cubs GM Jim Hendry tells me Hendry has already had discussions with relatively new Cubs Owner Tom Ricketts about paying Pujols 300 million over ten years…I’m told Ricketts is ready to write Albert a check now…Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak knows of his rivals plans, but will continue to try and make it happen even though the deadline has passed. I’m sure he’ll end up with Cardinals one way or another
